North American and CAC Mustang
Profile Artwork

The P-51 Mustang is one of the most recognised and famous aircraft ever produced, so there's not much I can say here to add to that.

Here is a collection of profiles of both US and Australian manufactured Mustangs that served with the R.A.A.F. at some stage.

Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation CA-17 Mustang Mk 20
A68-2, was one of the first 80 Mustangs put together by CAC from parts kits supplied by North American Aviation. It is shown as it was flown by the Aircraft Performance Unit in January 1946 on range test flights.

Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation CA-18 Mustang Mk 23
A68-121 saw combat in Korea with 77 Squadron, RAAF, flying from Iwakuni in Japan and bases in Korea until June 1951.

A68-675 operated with No. 2 Operational Training Unit out of Midura around 1945–1946.

A68-766 as it operated with 76 Squadron, R.A.A.F. out of Japan in 1946

A68-803 as flown by Sqn Ldr Dick Cresswell over Korea circa 1950–1951.

A68-1001 was supplied as a whole aircraft, possibly from stocks earmarked for England judging by the camouflage scheme, to be used as a "pattern" airframe for local production.

Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation CA-18 Mustang Mk 21
VH-JUC, one of the local Australian warbirds, was originally serialled A68-105. Co-owned by Judy Pay and Dick Hourigan, VH-JUC is painted in the markings of Sqdn Ldr Murray Nash DSO, DFC with bar, as he flew it in Italy during WWII.

No. 3 Squadron, RAAF, Mustang IVa KH853 CV-K as flown by Flight Lieutenant Ken Richards in May 1945 from Fano, Italy.
