The Ballarat Tramways Museum is located in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens just next to Lake Wendouree in Ballarat's west. It's about an hour and a half drive from Melbourne in Victorias mid-west.

The museum operates a tourist tram service around the area as well as hiring trams out for functions.

There is a large workshop on-site where you can see several trams being restored. Considering the elaborate timberwork in most of these trams, restoration is a very specialised task. You can see several trams in various states of restoration.

There is a quaint shop, converted from a tram itself, where you can by books and memorabilia as well as tourist trinkets.
