Class W Tram
Walkaround Gallery

The old Melbourne trams are a real icon of the city. This Class W dates from 1937 and is still running. There wer several variations on the Class W with changes mainly to doors and setaing arrangements. Those of us who grew up in Melbourne may remember the "chugga chugga" of the air compressor under the floor charging the braking system, the loud clear "Ding, Ding" of the bell, the Conductor, the deep slatted wooden floor and the hard seats and rough ride. Sheer bliss!
