The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society is a truly remarkable organisation. They have acquired, restored to flying condition and now maintain a whole fleet of significant aircraft. They display these aircraft, not only at Illawarra, but all over the country at airshows and flying days.

Perhaps their most famous aircraft is the Super Constellation “Connie”. She has been a highlight at Avalon for several years and is one of only a handful of flying examples in the world. The story of the recovery and refurbishment of Connie is an epic adventure in itself.

Add to this the procurement and refurbishment of a Catalina, two Neptunes, two C-47s, Cessna 180, Tiger Moth and Winjeel and you start to get an idea of how much it is contributing to the Australian historical aviation seen. And that’s not even the full list!

You can visit their site for a comprehensive run-down of their activities and aircraft: HARS: Historical Aircraft Restoration Society
