Eurocopter Squirrel
Walkaround Gallery

I took this Eurocopter AS 350 Squirrel walkaround of another one of the RAN helos on display at Avalon 2007.

The RAN have a demonstration team called the Taipans which flies standard Squirrels straight off the flightline. They put on a great show at Avalon. This isn't one of the display birds, but they are the same spec.

The ADF has a fleet of Squirrels serving in the RAAF, Army and RAN. The RAAF and Army use them primarily in the training role, and the Navy for training and utility. This particular bird, N22-017, is a Gulf War veteran. According to www.adf-serials.com, she was embarked on HMAS Darwin during and after the 1990 Gulf War. For this service, she was modified to carry a 7.62mm machine gun in the cabin door. I'd like to see a pic of that, I can't find one on the web.

Modellers, note! The registration on the port side of the tail fin aligns with the bottom of the tail boom, while the starboard one aligns with the groundline. Also, The roundel on the port side is higher than that on the starboard. You can see this quite clearly in Pic 12.
